Munich’s public transportation is the envy of many other
cities. It comprises of the U-Bahn and the S-Bahn as well as an
over-ground tram system that services most parts of the city. All
three systems are extremely efficient and punctual.
The U-Bahn is the under ground system with the S-Bahn the over-ground.
You are never far away from a station which are clearly signposted.
Public transportation is also quite cheap with a variety of ticketing
options. We have detailed some suggestions below. Tickets can be
purchased from vending machines in any station.
Single Ticket
Single tickets (Einzelfahrkarten) are single fares whose price depends on the
distance covered. They are valid for one trip in one direction within a certain
period of time. You may change or stop on the way, but you cannot take a
round trip or make a return journey on the same ticket.
Stripe Ticket
A "stripe ticket" (Streifenkarte) has got 10 stripes.
The number of stripes that you have to validate per trip depends
on the distance travelled. The ticket can be used by several people,
for all directions and distances.
There are also options such as daily tickets that allow unlimited
travel and monthly tickets which operate in a similar vein. Be
sure to check what areas you can travel in with your ticket. Maps
of all routes are again available at all stations.
Taxis in Munich are easily identifiable as they are all cream
in colour. There is never a problem finding or hailing one.
A great way to see Munich and its beautiful surrounds is by renting
a car. We are happy to recommend…….
